A former guard at a high-security men’s prison in the UK’s Yate has admitted in court to violating her professional duties. 31-year-old Sarah Barnett has become embroiled in a case regarding secret relationships with a prisoner, according to the Daily Mail.
The hearing reportedly lasted just a few minutes. It was established that Barnett fully accepted her guilt. Details of the investigation have yet to be released. The court has released her on bail until the verdict, scheduled for January 7. The woman faces a potential prison sentence.
It is known that after leaving the prison service, she changed careers and opened her own beauty salon specializing in eyebrow and eyelash treatments. Her family, according to relatives, had hoped for the case to be dropped, but the charges remain active.
British press reports indicate that Barnett is not the only prison employee discovered to have engaged in illegal relationships with inmates in recent months.
