In northern Italy’s Trentino-South Tyrol region, five climbers from Germany tragically lost their lives due to an avalanche, as reported by the local publication Alto Adige, citing the mountain rescue service.
On Sunday morning, rescuers recovered the bodies of two climbers who had gone missing the previous evening in the Ortles mountain range. Reports indicate that the victims included a father and his 17-year-old daughter.
The search and rescue operation faced challenging conditions. On Saturday, three other victims were found, but heavy fog forced a halt to the operation. Once conditions improved, rescuers were flown to an altitude of 2600 meters, from where they proceeded to the site of the tragedy.
Both groups of German climbers were caught in the avalanche. In the first group, consisting of three individuals, all perished. In the second group, two survived, while two remained missing until this morning.
